The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) and the ACTION Center of Batangas State University, in collaboration with the Climate Change Commission (CCC) Philippines conducted the first phase of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory and Climate Change Expenditure Tagging (CCET) training for selected University personnel, March 3.

The Climate Change Commission (CCC) discussed the concepts of climate change, overview of community GHG inventory and the sectors in the said inventory such as agriculture, forest and other land use, energy and transport, industrial processes and product use and the waste sector.

The first phase was conducted virtually to equip selected employees with the necessary knowledge on GHG inventory and data collection processes in preparation for the second phase, which will be held by the second quarter of the year. The second phase will focus on the actual computation of the collected data assigned by the CCC to the participants during the initial part of the training.

The multi-phase approach is designed to ensure that participants develop both conceptual understanding and practical competence in carrying out the required processes within their respective units.

Representatives from the offices of Center for Sustainable Development, ACTION Center, Sustainable Development, Research Development and Extension Services, Planning, Procurement, Resource Generation, Environmental Management, General Services, Project Management, Financial, Budget, Accounting, Property and Supply, Project Facility and Presidential Project Management attended the said training. The said offices are the crucial offices in the data collection for the GHG inventory of the University.

According to CCC, having data for all Greenhouse Gas (GHG) sectors is essential in GHG accounting and Climate Change Expenditure Tagging (CCET) because it ensures that climate actions and decisions are accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with national and international reporting standards.

By strengthening the capacity of its personnel, Batangas State University continues to advance its commitment to sustainability and climate action. The trained staff will help support the University’s sustainability initiatives, improve environmental reporting, and contribute to efforts toward climate resilience and responsible environmental stewardship.
