Batangas State University -The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU) convened its first-ever Sustainability Summit with the theme “Usapang Sustainability: Upholding Sustainability Practices and Approaches in Higher Education.” The summit aimed to provide an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they can be integrated into higher education curricula. It also served as a platform for BatStateU-The NEU to highlight its sustainability efforts, progress, gaps, challenges, and opportunities.
Dr. Reginald G. Ugaddan, an Assistant Professor and College Secretary at the University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance, was one of the keynote speakers. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, such as local government units, community organizations, and civil society groups, to achieve sustainable development. Dr. Vaberlie P. Mandane-Garcia facilitated a roundtable discussion on the topic “SDGs on the Campus: Where are We?”, where each constituent campus presented its sustainability initiatives and plans tailored to their needs and resources.
The Sustainability Summit showcased BatStateU-The NEU's commitment to responsible resource stewardship and equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development. The plans presented during the roundtable discussion are expected to be carried out as the second semester of AY 2022-2023 begins, highlighting the university's continued efforts towards sustainable development.
