Adopt-a- SAM/MAM Feeding Project addresses child malnutrition in an urban barangay

In partnership with the City Health Office (CHO)- Nutrition Office of Batangas City, Batangas State University – TNEU conducted a feeding program to the children of Brgy. Wawa who were moderately and severely malnourished. The College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CONAHS) Pablo Borbon conducted its extension project “Adopt-a- SAM/MAM Feeding Program” for the children who are malnourished in Brgy. Wawa, Batangas City, Batangas last September 29, 2022. It was facilitated by the CONAHS faculty extensionists with the assistance of Extension Coordinator Ms. Kristia Lei A. Reyes. The program on Adopt-a- SAM/MAM Feeding Program was attended by the BSND Faculty Members and the representatives of the partner agencies and it was held at the covered court of Brgy. Wawa, Batangas City, Batangas. 

The beneficiaries were identified based on the list of the Batangas City Nutrition Division Office. The faculty extensionists conducted nutritional assessment first among the identified beneficiaries through getting demographic information as well as measuring of their mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC). Afterwards they were given a complete meal: rice, protein dish with fruit and vegetables, based on the requirements of the DOST-FNRI Pinggang Pinoy. The beneficiaries will be provided with nutritious meal from September to December 2022 until they achieve their normal nutritional status.
