BatStateU elevates International Women’s Day with advocacy and action

In a purple display of solidarity and empowerment, Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU), marked International Women’s Day on March 8 with a series of impactful initiatives across its 11 campuses.

The festivities commenced with a spirited parade organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) Pablo Borbon and Central and a short program held at Makabayan Park, Pablo Borbon campus. The event, adorned in hues of purple, symbolizing women’s empowerment and peace, served as a tribute to the invaluable contributions of women to society, culture, and history. Attendees, comprising a diverse assembly of BatStateU community members, infused the occasion with their unique energy and enthusiasm.

Assoc. Prof. Maria Theresa A. Hernandez, Assistant Director of Gender and Development Advocacies, encapsulated the essence of the celebration with her poignant words: “Here’s to the resilient women shaping our world: May we find inspiration in them, embody their strength, and nurture their growth. Celebrating the beauty and grace of femininity on this meaningful day.”

The month-long celebration features a plethora of engaging activities, including the I-Juana Walk, EmpowHER: Manika ni’ Ka Monika (MaNiKa) Doll Making, EmpowHER: A Fistful of Confidence – Women’s Month Self-Defense Training, Pink Talks: Hindi Ako si Maria Clara, On-the-Spot Literary Illustration contest, Extemporaneous Speech contest, IN FAIRNESS! Communicating the Language of GAD in the Workplace and the Community, Donation Drive for Baskagan ni Marites, a Zumba program, Project WISE (Women Inspiring Societal Empowerment): a panel discussion on Empowering Women and Breaking Barriers, Patunay sa Larawan; a Photography contest, and “VOWS: Voices Against Online Violence Towards Women Seminar,” among others.

“Let’s honor the strength and wisdom of women globally. International Women’s Day—a time for reflection, appreciation, and advancing towards embracing every woman’s infinite potential. BatStateU stands in solidarity with women worldwide as Red Spartans unite for a more inclusive, equitable, and empowered future,” stated Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, the University President, affirming the university’s dedication to women’s empowerment.
